So i went to my local shop to get some more resin but they only had laminating resin and i ve only worked with sanding resin.
Add wax to laminating resin.
Add wax to the laminating resin and skip the first gelcoat.
The only resin i use is laminating resin for hot coats i add 3 wax in styrene surfacing agent per kilo up to 5 is acceptable for gloss coats 3 w s then i add 3 5 styrene depending on the temp the resin base is the same for all three additives for anti sagging and thinning and gell time are the only difference if you have the resources to mix them your self there is no need to have.
If a laminate or mold is constructed using three or more layers of fiberglass reinforcement no wax is necessary as the heat generated during the cure cycle will fully set the resin.
My copy of ding repair scriptures says 4 ounces of wax per quart of lam resin my math sucks that s like 12 where some threads on.
Laminating resin remains tacky unless you add wax to it for the final layers in your layup or apply an airdry product such as pva polyvinyl alcohol to the surface.
They gave me some wax to make sanding resin but i m not entirely sure how much to add.
There are two principle types of polyester resins used in standard laminating systems.
Add styrene wax to non waxed polyester resin and gel coat to prevent the prolonged tackiness associated with thin sections of polyesters in your composite.
Isophthalic polyester resin is the preferred resin in the marine industry as it has superior water resistanc.
We have two options for polyester resin 77 polyester molding resin and 90 isopthalic polyester resin.
Note the wax must be sanded and washed off before application of the next coat of resin or paint.
Orthophthalic polyester resin is the standard economic resins used.
When paraffin is added to resin the wax will rise to the surface and protect the curing resin from the inhibiting action of the air.
Wax additive is added to the final layer of gelcoat without wax or to the polyester laminating resin without wax on the final layer of a wet layup to produce a tack free surface and allow the material to cure to a hard finish.
Do i have to add wax in order for it to dry.
Seal the surface of the laminating wax with pva or plastic film and skip the first gelcoat.
Once the resin is allowed to fully cure it must.
The wax rises to the surface and provides a barrier to the air which allows the resin to fully cure.
This styrene wax is a 5 paraffin dissolved in styrene.
